Ayozat announces TV coverage for whole of Greyhound Derby

TELEVISION coverage of the forthcoming Star Sports/TRC Derby at Towcester has been secured with Ayozat announcing broadcast details on a pay-per-view basis although the final will be available free-to-air.

The outcome follows a collaborative approach from a number of off-course bookmakers, including Derby sponsor Star Sports, along with picture rights holders SIS.

Ayozat, the operator of Ayozat Pay-Per-View and Ayozat Stream on ayozat.com plus Ayozat TV on Sky 186, will host the broadcasts beginning with the first round which commences on Thursday 23rd May.

Ayozat promises a fully-produced programme format titled BetGoodwin TV. Presenting the shows will be Jason Barrasford alongside pundit and tipster Tony Bullen, while the latest news, interviews and reaction from Towcester will be provided by trackside reporters Dave Clark and Emily Wallis.

Content from the track will also include exclusive head-on footage from the first bend covering the all-important run to the opening turn throughout the competition.

There will be nine programmes throughout the Classic, culminating with the final on Saturday 29th June. Broadcasts will start from 6pm on the day of each fixture.

Pay-per-view pricing starts at £2.49 per show, rising to £4.99 each for the semi-final and final. Alternately, viewers can take advantage of a sizeable discount and sign up for a season ticket for the whole competition on pay-per-view for £14.99.

Umesh Perera, Ayozat chief executive officer, commented: “This is an exciting production for Ayozat, and the first step on the journey for Ayozat to bring more Greyhound racing to free-to-air television and the Ayozat Media Network.

"The SportyStuff TV experience taught us that the greyhound audience rightly demands the highest production standards with high-res pictures of the live action, wrapped in a fully produced programme format that includes the best editorial content including pre-race features, interviews, tipping, and post-race analysis.

"Ayozat is committed to meeting those objectives in putting the 2024 English Greyhound Derby on Ayozat's pay-per-view platform and the final on free-to-air TV on Sky 186”.

Kevan Moretti, Ayozat chairman, added: “I know many will be dismayed that the early rounds, quarter-final, and semi-final will be on a pay-for-view basis, but with the time and funding available we need to ask both viewers and sponsors to help contribute.

"Everyone should win out of this project. The Derby final is back on free-to-air TV; fans and enthusiasts can follow the action throughout the entire competition; sponsors get brand association and advertising in return for their funding contributions, hopefully in turn receiving deserved stakes and support from viewing punters.

"I am delighted the roll call of supporting bookmakers includes BetGoodwin, our lead sponsor together with StarSports, AK Bets, Fitzdares and William Hill.”

Julian Head owner of BetGoodwin commented. “'When we heard Greyhound TV was coming off air, we were very disappointed. We love our dog racing here at BetGoodwin and have many customers on the phone and online who love to have a punt on their favourite sport while watching the races live on TV.

"We jumped at the chance when the opportunity arose to be the lead sponsor on the exciting new channel. Currently we sponsor Towcester and Suffolk Downs and we have even bought a dog with the Boothby's: 'SavannaBetGoodwin' to hopefully run in this fantastic competition!

"Greyhound racing is a great traditional sport that is loved by many, and we will always try and give the game the support it deserves."

Ben Keith owner of Star Sports commented: “Our sport and community need daily coverage to welcome newcomers and retain interest for the already hooked. We must all support Ayozat’s efforts and join together to do so."

Flynn Goward, MD of Star Sports, added: “As the home of greyhound racing here at Star Sports, we are delighted to be one of the partners supporting Ayozat to showcase the Greyhound Derby.

"It is essential that the marquee greyhound event in the UK has its rightful place in the spotlight, which the Ayozat team has worked so hard to put on for greyhound racing fans.”

Anthony Kaminskas, owner of AK Bets, went on to state: “Everyone at AK Bets is delighted Kevan and Ayozat has managed to get this over the line with time of the essence. Greyhound Racing is close to our hearts at AK Bets and we hope greyhound punters remember those who back the sport with deeds as well as words.”

William Woodham, CEO of Fitzdares, said: “Fitzdares are seeing double digit growth in greyhound racing and this brilliant initiative will support the sport and the Derby for future generations. Plus anything Star, Goodwin  and AK do, I better do too!”

Paul Witten, SIS managing director Europe, Middle East and Africa, commented: “We are delighted to support the Ayozat initiative to provide full live coverage of all rounds of the Star Sports English Greyhound Derby, and the final itself on free to air television.”
