Diamond sparkles on his way to rapid round two Derby heat win

BOCKOS DIAMOND, fastest overall in the Star Sports/TRC Derby second round, set up that 28.51sec Saturday victory with a best-of-event 15.53sec split through our back straight sectional point.

His Graham Holland-trained kennelate Bombay Pat was just two spots slower for the 500m but 13 spots behind through the back straight mark, while Cheap Sandwiches (28.65sec) made it a Holland 1-2-3 with a 15.71sec clocking.

However, it is worth noting that first-round standard-setter Ballinabola Joe was racing on slower ground, -20 compared to normal, when posting his 15.78sec on Friday, a time matched the same night by Richard Rees' evergreen Churchfield Syd.

In all, 15 greyhounds broke the 16.00sec mark in round two with five of them - Bockos Diamond, Cheap Sandwiches, Salacres Senan, Kevins Rocket and Jaytee Craze set to meet in round three where the sextet is completed by Droopys Bookem whose 16.03sec was hardly snail-like!
