THE Greyhound Trader pre-Derby Sale took place at Towcester on Good Friday and once again delivered a good standard of greyhound to the UK market from Ireland.

In previous years, greyhounds purchased include such as Antigua Sugar (multiple Category 1 winner), Savana Beau (2022 English Derby finalist), Antigua Lava (track record Hove), Coppice Warrior (Category 1 finalist), Savana Jazz (TV Trophy finalist), Ballymac John (Category 2 winner) plus many more open race winners throughout the UK tracks.

Greyhound Trader’s James Corden said: “There is a good record of quality greyhounds coming through the pre-Derby Sale at Towcester and hopefully the 2024 graduates will deliver over the next 12 months as well.”

The 2024 pre-Derby sale produced aggregate sales of just under £150,000 for the 46 presented for sale, which equates to an average of approximately £3,200 per greyhound.

Top lot on the day was Good Hunter, from the Kennedy Greyhounds breeding establishment, who scorched around the Towcester circuit in a calculated time of 29.24sec, very impressive for the July 2022 whelp out of Flaming Sahara by Knocknaboul Syd.

He did not meet his reserve on the bench, however the team at Greyhound Trader were able to facilitate a deal of £17,000 to secure the very fast prospect who will now join the kennels of Diane Henry.

Other notable lots sold on the day included Droopys Monica (£15,500), Droopys Doll (£9,000), Junctionfourteen (£8,200), Northies (£7,000) and then Diversion and Sporting Arkose both sold for £6,000 each.
