Kamala goes under 28sec mark again in Irish Oaks second round
BALLYMAC KAMALA was again the star of the show in round two of the 2026 Sporting Press Irish Oaks over 525 yards at Shelbourne Park on Saturday as she made it three consecutive runs under 28.00sec.
Liam Dowling's bitch turned heat three into a procession, scoring by seven lengths from Clan Sapphire in 27.90sec as her trainer sent out a 1-3 with Ballymac Chantry a short-head away in third.
Unlike his four-timer of seven days earlier, however, that was it in terms of wins for Dowling with the other heats going to Robert Gleeson's Droopys Bundle (28.24sec), Peter Cronin's Rapido Ivy (28.25sec), Paul Hennessy's Lennies Ash (28.33sec), Jennifer O'Donnell's The Other Eimear (28.37sec) and Gerry Merriman's Highview Carol (28.43sec).
The Kieran Lynch-trained Shanahee Boomer, winner of last year's Maiden Derby at the track, was fastest in the opening round of the Shelbourne Summer Cup over 525 yards as he took heat three in 28.28sec on a night when just 21 spots separated all six winning times.
