Sunday 7th April

KING MEMPHIS
, 14-1 English Greyhound Derby favourite with co-sponsor Star Sports, put down a huge marker with a flying 28.83sec trial over the Classic 500m course before racing at Towcester on Sunday 7th April.

Liz McNair's dog, winner of the Puppy Derby at the track in November and fresh from finishing second to kennelmate Queen Joni in Central Park's Kent Plate final, clocked a 4.03sec sectional on his way to a comfortably best-of-session spin.

Next best time was the 29.18sec, also off a 4.03sec split, posted by Mark Wallis' Eclipse champion Newinn Syd, who was second to King Memphis in Hove's Olympic just before Christmas.

Other workouts of note at a busy session came from Tom Heilbron's The Other Donny (29.24sec), Paul Young's Miami Bullet (29.34sec), Kevin Boon's Ivy Hill Thunder and Young's Teejay Bojangles (both 29.35sec).

Diane Henry's Northern Puppy Derby champion and Monmore Puppy Derby third Clona Curly clocked 29.44sec in his solo.

There was a smart 15.78sec sprint spin over 270m from Maxine Locke's Cooliogold, while subsequent 500m standard opens went to Henry's Unreal Bruiser (29.31sec) and Carol Grasso's Tommys Lotto (29.37sec).
