Venetian Mick simply too good for Oxford Maiden Stayers rivals

VENETIAN MICK completed his total domination of the event with another emphatic victory in the £3,000 final of the BetGoodwin Series Maiden Stayers over 650m at Oxford.

Trained by Kevin Hutton for Graham Freeman, the middle seed was running from trap six for the first time but broke just as well as he had in the first two rounds and was always in command.

There was drama in behind with his kennelate Jet Stream Jane taking an early tumble on the run-up and Fire Height Lila cramping from the third bend - both finished the course - but Venetian Mick was oblivious as he set sail for home.

The battle for second was a close one eventually won by staying-on Is This Wise albeit more than four lengths adrift of the hand-timed 39.36sec (-30) winner.
