Having his first look at the Star Sports/TRC Derby venue, Paul Hennessy's dog posted a 4.01sec sectional as he steered a middle-to-wide course from trap six on his way to an overall 28.99sec.

Next quickest was Easter Cup champion Clonbrien Treaty with a 29.26sec solo although it was at the second time of asking with Graham Holland's star puzzled to find no hare when the traps opened for the first attempt at running the trial.
Holland's recent intake, 2023 Irish Derby champion The Other Kobe, rocketed out to a 3.97sec sectional and railed well round the first two bends before visibly tiring late on his first public appearance since September as he recorded 29.35sec, two spots slower than the 29.33sec of Tom Heilbron's Greenwell Coe.
Heilbron's kennel star Links Maverick was fastest in sprints over the 270m trip with his 15.64sec just marginally better than Holland's Bockos Crystal (15.67sec), Richard Rees' Churchfield Syd (15.74sec) and John Mullins' Signet Goofy (15.79sec).
