Star Sports/TRC English Derby trial stakes - Sunday 28th April

ALTHOUGH the KAB Maiden Derby final was the feature at the meeting, there were plenty of other Star Sports/TRC Derby pointers on offer in the latest batch of official trial stakes plus a couple of lively maidens over the 500m course.

Bockos Thunder was fastest in the trial stakes with a 29.26sec effort as Kevin Boon's dog rebounded from Maiden Derby semi-final elimination in a contest where Irish Laurels champion High Trend perhaps betrayed his lack of course knowledge by somewhat feeling his way round.

Boon went on to complete a double when his Bettys Jack (29.50sec) just held off Romeo Big Syd while there were also victories for Paul Young's Aero Convey (29.29sec), who got the better of a photo with 2023 Derby champion Gaytime Nemo, and Gemma Evans' powerful Droopys Vivacity (29.54sec).

Run of the day, however, came in the top division of the maiden where Diane Henry's down-in-trip Savana Jackpot was credited with a flying 28.78sec, Peter Harnden's Salacres Hang On having taken an earlier division in 29.35sec.
