Apollo can close the greyhound year with Donny sprint victory

RISING APOLLO can close the SIS greyhound racing year with victory in Doncaster's D3 finale over 275m at 4.07.

Craig Williams' charge was off from July until the start of this month but has been something of a revelation since returning over sprint distances.

He made a winning comeback one rung down then, after a slow start derailed him next time up, ran a blinder when second at this level latest with a repeat of that sort of performance likely to suffice.

The New Year's Eve action starts with an early 10.02 opener at Harlow in which Dave Carter's Derramore Danger can complete an A7 hat-trick, while there is also morning action at Kilkenny where Louise Whall's Giddyup Adele (12.38) can take advantage of a drop in grade.

At Valley, Donna Davy's former track record holder Unwanted Present can end a wait for a four-bend win stretching back to the summer by scoring on her first-ever A4 appearance at 2.44.
