SIR PHILIP DAVIES, who takes up the role as GBGB chairman today [1st September], has spoken of the need for greyhound racing to shout louder to the outside world.

In an interview recorded at Star Pelaw, Davies said: "Greyhound racing is a fantastic sport but in any respects it's been too inward facing

"Everyone involved in it knows how great a sport it is but it's probably not been as good as it could have been at telling the world how good a sport it is.

"One of my jobs, certainly politically, will be to make sure that politicians understand that greyhound racing is not only a fantastic sport, really important in the local community, but that it has a fantastic welfare record.

"We know that, we just need to sell that message a bit better to people in politics because if people saw how much welfare played a part in greyhound racing then what's happening in Wales, which is an absolute disgrace, almost certainly wouldn't be happening."

Davies also spoke of the need to engage with the off-course betting industry over increased funding.
