Further detail added to new SIS streamlined greyhound schedule

SIS has today added further detail to a new streamlined greyhound racing schedule, designed to reflect current industry pressures while continuing to deliver a comprehensive live racing service.

The updated programme will maintain live greyhound racing across morning, afternoon and evening slots, seven days a week, while moving towards a more optimised and sustainable schedule.

From 17th April, Star Pelaw will race on Friday afternoons, with an option under consideration to transition Sunday evening fixtures to a regular Saturday evening slot. As part of this initial phase of changes, Valley will now race permanently on Tuesday afternoons.

The overall schedule will be further enhanced over the coming months through increased Irish coverage, with additional fixtures from Thurles, Cork and Youghal. This will include Saturday morning racing alongside extra evening Feature and Classic competitions.

These adjustments form part of SIS’s ongoing response to the significant financial, regulatory and welfare challenges facing the sport. Rising taxation, reductions in betting shop numbers and the planned increase to Remote Gaming Duty in 2027 continue to place pressure on bookmaker profitability.

In parallel, recent legislative changes in Wales and Scotland have intensified scrutiny around the sport’s social licence and long-term sustainability.

SIS remains committed to working with industry stakeholders to deliver a balanced, high-quality greyhound racing product that supports the future of the industry.
