GBGB's retired video with rugby legend Marler up for PR award

THE GBGB’s ‘Adopt A Sporting Legend’ campaign video has been shortlisted for the Best Use of Celebrity and Best Content Awards at the 2026 PR Moments Awards.

Featuring an appearance from ex-England Rugby star Joe Marler, the tongue-in-cheek campaign video was designed to debunk myths about the greyhound breed, while highlighting the qualities which make retired greyhounds such fantastic pets once they finish their racing careers – their gentle natures, low exercise needs and quirky personalities.

The campaign formed just one part of GBGB’s on-going ‘Share Your Life With A Greyhound’ campaign which promotes greyhounds as pets, provides information about the breed and offers a directory of approved homing centres where you can adopt a greyhound from.

The campaign has been a great success so far, with homing rates for greyhounds retiring from racing increasing by more than a third in 2025 compared with 2024.

Rugby legend Marler enlisted to spread the word on rehoming
THE GBGB, which launched the withagreyhound.org.uk rehoming website last autumn, has enlisted rugby legend Joe Marler to spread the world. Recently retired himself, Marler features in ‘Adopt a Sporting Legend’ which is a spoof documentary from PR agency W Communications asking ’ What’s more adoptable, a cuddly canine

Mark Moisley, Commercial Director of the Greyhound Board of Great Britain, said: “It is fantastic to see this campaign video receive industry recognition for its use of a celebrity to spread an important message.

"Both the sporting legends involved had great fun making it!  Retired greyhounds are amazing pets who can fit into a wide range of different lifestyles.

“We are continuing to build on the success of our ‘Adopt a Sporting Legend’ campaign to promote retired racers as pets and ensure all greyhounds retiring from racing can enjoy long, happy and healthy retirements in the perfect home for them.”
