SUFFOLK DOWNS has had a tremendous response to its second official trials session since reopening with more than 60 greyhounds due to go through their paces there on Thursday.

Additionally there are more than a dozen trainers represented which bodes well for the track's intended return to action provisionally pencilled in for some time in November.

Effectively, a phased return to racing will see Suffolk Downs part of the rescheduling to replace Towcester on the SIS service with the final broadcast meeting at the Northamptonshire venue set to be on Thursday 20th November.

Richard Brankley, head of greyhound operations for SIS, said: "SIS is proud to have made Towcester greyhound racing available worldwide since it reopened under Kevin Boothby in 2020 and especially to have covered five wonderful English Greyhound Derbys staged there in that period - the feats of the Patrick Janssens-trained Thorn Falcon and Droopys Plunge ensuring the always powerful Irish raiding teams have not had things all their own way.

"There are new times ahead for the track under the stewardship of Mike Davis who has taken the decision to race under the ARC banner with an offer he could not refuse. We wish the venue and all those working at the track the best going forward.

"In addition to Star Pelaw having recently added a third weekly meeting, Thurles debuting on the service and the return of Suffolk Downs, we continue to develop additional opportunities in Ireland as part of our long-term partnership with Greyhound Racing Ireland."
