Joe might be named the winner some way out in Dobbin Derby

POPPER JOE was shaded by Ballinabola Eve in the heats last weekend but looks favoured by the draw in the £1,000 Alan Dobbin Derby final over 435m at Star Pelaw (9.24).

Trained by George Walker, the selection was formerly known as Tromora Goal and looked set to make a winning start with his new moniker after leading early only to then run off at the second bend.

Popper Joe (T1) can reverse Pelaw heat form with Ballinabola Eve (T2)

Ballinabola Eve took full advantage but Popper Joe rallied to go down in a photo and now looks well berthed in two in the all-railer decider.

In all, the Pelaw card features six opens with Garry Hamilton's Tells Star the pick in the consolation event at 8.18, while other fancies are Glenn Foot's Tassie Twirl (8.32), Jason Smith's Westfield Frank (8.48), Matthew Watson's Sandyhill Jess (9.06) and Craig Brown's Hello Lady (9.40).

There is also evening open action at Doncaster with Barry Denby's Leighas Dream (7.24) a standout, while Carol Weatherall's Chamberlain Kate (6.21) and Kevin Htton's Southfield Poppy (6.39) are the picks in two heats of the BetGoodwin Oxford Bitches Trophy over 450m.

Doncaster also has an early Saturday SIS meeting alongside Towcester, while Youghal races this afternoon.
