Kamala ends Dowling's wait for Irish Laurels victory leading a 1-2

BALLYMAC KAMALA filled a rare gap on the training cv of Liam Dowling as she led home a 1-2 for the handler in the €30,000 final of the BAR 1 Betting Irish Laurels over 525 yards at Curraheen Park.

Sent off 13/2 fourth favorite with kennelmate and track record holder Ballymac Setanta the 13/8 market leader, Ballymac Kamala broke really well from five and was able to clear the all-railer field by the first bend.

That was effectively race over hard as Ballymac Setanta tried, with a tangle in passing outsider Magical Jet when moving into second at three-quarters not helping his cause.

In truth, it made little difference to the outcome with Ballymac Kamala, who is also owned as well as trained by Dowling, securing a first Irish Laurels victory for the Ballymacelligot supremo by four lengths in 28.05sec and Magical Jet two lengths back in third.

Dowling had earlier initiated a double when his Solo And Go took the Magical Kennels Open 525 in 28.07sec, while the other ain featres fianl was the €10,000 Michael (Bart) Leahy Memorial which went to Graham Holland's Half Yours in 28.26sec for owners Pat Muldoon and Eugene Buckley.
