Magical month for Guilfoyle with Lifford Oaks and Laurels success

Magical month for Guilfoyle with Lifford Oaks and Laurels success

01/11 - Lifford: BOYLE Sports Lifford Oaks - Magical Mag

MAGICAL MAG got it right on the big night to claim the €10,000 BOYLE Sports Lifford Oaks final over 525 yards at the County Donegal venue.

Pat Guilfoyle's Irish Derby finalist was yet to win in the event having struggled to see out the trip round the stiff circuit but pinged from trap two and was always in command.

Around four lengths clear at halfway, she was closed down all the way to the line by Hackney Tango but had enough in hand to prevail by half a length in 28.69sec, with Guilfoyle's Daleroad Mya third.

02/11 - Oxford: KAB Puppy Collar - Outa The Clouds

OUTA THE CLOUDS, at March 2024 the youngest finalist, credited former rugby international Mike Burton with a first Category One success as a trainer when landing the £10,000 KAB Puppy Collar final over 450m at Oxford.

Only five went to traps following the withdrawal of Aero Najem but it was still 11/4 field with Ollie The Ox, unbeaten in the event going into the decider, the favourite.

However, Outa The Clouds, who had rebounded from a 1/4 heat reverse with a smart semi-final victory, broke best and was always in control, going on to beat Romford Puppy Cup heroine Scooby Diamond by just over a length in 26.69sec (normal) with Ollie The Ox four lengths back in third.

08/11 - Cork: BarOne Racing Irish Laurels - Magical On Fire

PAT GUILFOYLE landed the Irish Greyhound Laurels for the second time in three years courtesy of Magical On Fire's last-gasp success over 525 yards at Curraheen Park.

Solo And Go, 7/4 joint-favourite with kennelmate Ballymac Setanta, looked set to give Liam Dowling a first victory in the €30,000 Classic, sponsored by BarOne Racing in association with the Friends & Supporters of Cork Greyhound Racing , having made full use of trap one to steal an early march.

However, that view did not account for the strength of Magical On Fire, who had turned second and began to close inexorably from the third bend, collaring the long-time leader in the shadow of post for a head victory in 27.93sec with Lemon Joey staying on strongly in third.

It was the fastest-ever time in a Laurels final as Guilfoyle took the famous title for a second time following Good Cody's 2022 success.

16/11 - Oxford: BetGoodwin Maiden Sprint - Cutabovetherest

CUTABOVETHEREST, whose four previous sprint victories had all come in D2 grade at former base Hove, completed an unbeaten run through the event to land the £3,000 BetGoodwin Maiden Sprint final over 253m at Oxford.

Leading home a 1-2 for local handler Barrie Backhurst, the 6/4 favourite made a decent start, cleared Cloughtaney Chaz on his inside before the opening bend and was well clear coming out of it after scrimmaging in behind.

Kennelmate Savana Yahoo rode a couple of bumps to go off in pursuit but the winner had flown and came home four and a half lengths to the good in a hand-timed 15.32sec (-10).

22/11 - Shelbourne Park: IGOBF National Puppy 525 - Shotgun Dez

SHOTGUN DEZ completed an unbeaten run through the event to land the €12,500 final of the 2025 IGOBF National Puppy 525, the most valuable race at Shelbourne Park's Winter Racing Festival.

Showing fine early speed to lead, he looked in complete command at halfway although his Graham Holland-trained kennelate Beanos Yank did close slightly into the third turn.

However, the Pat and Molly Muldoon-owned Shotgun Dez was never threatened and came home three lengths to the good of a subsequently-disqualified Ballycowen Frank in 28.17sec, the runner-up having made contact with Beanos Yank close to the line.

30/11 - Oxford: BetGoodwin Maiden Stayers - Venetian Mick

VENETIAN MICK completed his total domination of the event with another emphatic victory in the £3,000 final of the BetGoodwin Series Maiden Stayers over 650m at Oxford.

Trained by Kevin Hutton for Graham Freeman, the middle seed was running from trap six for the first time but broke just as well as he had in the first two rounds and was always in command.

There was drama in behind with his kennelate Jet Stream Jane taking an early tumble on the run-up and Fire Height Lila cramping from the third bend - both finished the course - but Venetian Mick was oblivious as he set sail for home.

The battle for second was a close one eventually won by staying-on Is This Wise albeit more than four lengths adrift of the hand-timed 39.36sec (-30) winner.
