Magical set for more Oaks glory as Galway takes centre stage

MAGICAL MAG, an Irish Derby finalist last year and winner of the Lifford Oaks, can overcome a potentially challenging draw in five to land the €10,000 final of the On Faya Galway Oaks over 525 yards at 'The Sportsground'.

After three quiet runs on her belated return to action, Pat Guilfoyle's bitch has come alive in this event with victories in both heat and semi-final, clocking a superb 28.68sec on the latter occasion.

The draw does leave little margin for error but she impressed on her only previous outing wearing the orange jacket at last year's Winter Racing Festival at Shelbourne Park and is taken to come home ahead of Avenue Queen and kennelmate Magical Be Nifty.

The Thursday Irish action starts at Waterford where Derek Kehoe's Slaneyside Flo (12.04) and Richard Walsh's Bonnie Jo (12.38) look good, while Donal Casey's Varra Lasrach (3.22) and Joe Shanahan's Fredas Jet (3.41) can score at Limerick this afternoon

The Valley evening meeting features four opens with the pick a 460m contest at 8.34 in which Adrian Rawlings' Ashway June can take her record at the track to 11 wins in 22 starts.
