Star Pelaw and Untold Racing to revive the famous Stewards Cup

STAR PELAW is to revive the famous Stewards Cup after an absence of 17 years with the backing of Untold Racing’s Callum Purdy.
The early October competition will have Category Two status and be staged over the six-bend 590m trip at the County Durham venue with heats on Saturday evening, 4th October, semis eight days later on Sunday 12th October then the £3,000 final reverting to a Saturday on 18th October.
In all, the Untold Racing Stewards Cup will have a total prize fund of £7,500.
Inaugurated in 1941 by the then National Greyhound Racing Club, the Stewards Cup was an annual competition which was staged at different venues each year until finding a permanent home at Walthamstow in 1988.
Sponsor Callum Purdy said: “It’s great to see the progress Star Sports have made at Pelaw in such a short space of time and the momentum they are now building.
“Ben Keith [Star Sports owner] was a huge supporter of mine early on in my career and is now good friend so I was delighted when I heard the news he had purchased Star Pelaw.

“In a sport that we all love, it’s an honour to reignite and sponsor a competition like the Stewards Cup which hasn’t been run since 2008. It will be a Category Two event this year, but let’s see what 2026 brings.”
Kim Sanzone, head of greyhound operations for Star Sports, said: “We are delighted to secure sponsorship of our first Category Two event at Star Pelaw with the Untold Racing Stewards Cup in October.
“Both Ben and I are extremely grateful to Callum for his support of the track and we very much look forward to putting on even more competitions in 2026.
“In the few months we have been operating Star Pelaw, we have increased from one meeting weekly to two and have quite a few new trainers and dogs coming through, plus our first ever sales meeting last month was a huge success.”
Mark Wallis won the final Stewards Cup to be staged at Walthamstow in 2008 with Aero Blackjack.
