IRELAND has numerical supremacy for the first time in the 2024 Star Sports/TRC English Greyhound Derby with 13 quarter-final qualifiers versus 11 for the home side.

And that despite a third round when the UK sent out five heat winners compared to three for Ireland although, significantly, the two fastest winning times came from 'home' runners in the shape of Mark Wallis' Crafty Shivoo (28.62sec) and Liz McNair's King Memphis (28.74sec).

Three left unbeaten as Shivoo stars again to hold De Lahdedah
CRAFTY SHIVOO took star billing for the second week running as she stretched her unbeaten record at the track to nine with a thrilling victory over De Lahdedah in heat six of the Star Sports/TRC Derby third round over 500m at Towcester.

Fastest Irish runner on the night was Liam Dowling's De Lahdedah who posted 28.64sec courtesy of his head second to Crafty Shivoo, while Graham Holland's Irish Derby champion The Other Kobe clocked 28.77sec in joining Crafty Shivoo and King Memphis as one of three unbeaten survivors.

In terms of halfway clockings, stopwatch guru Ray Bourne unsurprisingly reported Crafty Shivoo to be fastest in that regard having gone through his mark in 13.68sec.

Full third round halfway leader sectionals:
13.68sec Crafty Shivoo
13.74sec King Memphis & The Other Kobe
13.81sec Churchfield Syd
13.94sec Droopys Doughnut & Grouchos Duke
13.98sec Droopys Pivotel
14.01sec Cooliogold

King Memphis drew trap one in the second quarter-final where he will again meet Ballinabola Ed and is now 3/1 clear favourite with Star Sports.
