Statistically speaking - a look at the round three Derby numbers

IT got a little tougher for punters in round three of the Star Sports/TRC English Derby at Towcester last Saturday with the percentage of winning favourites falling to a competition low of 37.5 per cent and average SP rising to 2.43/1.

One constant, however, was another good night for Ireland which took five of the eight heats - the overall score between the UK and Ireland is now 28-28 which becomes even more impressive from the raiders' viewpoint when the 15 competition heats Ireland has not been represented in are taken into account.

Ireland's Graham Holland and the UK's Patrick Janssens remain the Derby's leading trainers with 11 and 9 heat wins respectively.
