Valley to stage memorial race for former owner/promoter Tams
VALLEY is to stage a competition commemorating former stadium owner Malcolm Tams during the forthcoming Star Sports-backed Welsh Derby festival.
Tams, the long-time promoter and general manager of of the Ystrad Mynach venue, passed away in December 2025 at the age of 70 although the family's legacy there continues with his grandson Joe stepping up to help manage the track's operations.
Heats of the Malcolm Tams Memorial Trophy over the same 460m trip as the Welsh Derby will take place on the night of the semi-finals of the feature event - Saturday 26th September - with the £1,000 final seven days later on 3rd October.
It is open to 18 greyhounds with Joe Tams saying: "It's open to all and obviously that includes those knocked out of the [Welsh] Derby the week before, but it would be lovely if some of the trainers involved are locally-based and knew my grandfather."
