MS Davies throws full support behind Valley ahead of vote
GARETH DAVIES, the MS for the Vale Of Clwyd constituency, has thrown strong support behind the campaign to prevent a Bill being passed which would ban greyhound racing in Wales.
Despite criticism from two Senedd committees about the haste with which the Bill is being introduced without proper scrutiny of evidence and effects, a first vote is expected to go ahead on 16th December.
Conservative Davies, who is the Shadow Cabinet Secretary for Culture, Tourism, Sport, and North Wales, diverted to the Ystrad Mynach track on his journey back to his constituency on Thursday and used Facebook to express his unequivocal thoughts.
Davies wrote: “It was a pleasure to drop by the Valley Greyhounds Stadium in Caerphilly on my way home from Cardiff this morning.
“What am I doing here you may ask?
“I'm sitting on the committee which is scrutinising the Greyhound Racing Bill which sets out to ban dog racing in Wales.
“The only reason this has come about is because of dodgy backroom deals between Labour and the Lib Dem's to get the Budget through the Senedd.
“This is the only dog racing track in the whole of Wales with the sport generally on a natural decline since its heyday.
“Welfare has improved so much since licensing came in over 20 years ago and huge effort is made to make the track as safe as possible.
“Banning a largely a working class sport is a direct attack by the left wing parties on the very people they claim to represent.
“Basically a few do gooders who are scrambling around to get on the right side of history.
“And I don't believe it would stop there either, they'll be onto horse racing next, you watch!!
“I will be voting against this Bill for those very reasons.”
