100 years and still counting as racing centenary is celebrated

GREYHOUND racing got together at Dunstall Park in Wolverhampton to mark the centenary of the sport.

The newest greyhound track in the country turned the clock back to mark 100 years of the sport by mirroring Britain’s first-ever race meeting held at Belle Vue exactly a century earlier on 24th July 1926. 

The six-race card had contests over the range of distances - with SIS sponsoring a 480m British-bred contest - with prize money set at £1,926 for the winner of each race and £192.60 to the runners.

Guests were able to peruse a through-the-years memorabilia display featuring presentation jackets, scrapbooks and trophies.
