100 years and counting as greyhound racing celebrates centenary

GREYHOUND racing gets together at Dunstall Park in Wolverhampton tonight to mark the centenary of the sport.

The newest greyhound track in the country is turning the clock back to mark 100 years of the sport by mirroring Britain’s first-ever race meeting held at Belle Vue exactly a century earlier on 24th July 1926. 

The six-race card has contests over the range of distances - with SIS sponsoring a 480m British-bred contest - allowing the event to showcase all the talent which the sport has to offer, with prize money set at £1,926 for the winner of each race and £192.60 to the runners. 

To accompany the racing, spectators will be served a three-course meal with 1920s-themed entertainment throughout the night.
